Biography
Kumar Selvarajoo is Chief Scientist of Taizhou Institute of Zhejiang University. A native Singaporean, he previously held Senior Principal Investigator and Faculty positions at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) Bioinformatics Institute, the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, and the School of Biological Sciences at Nanyang Technological University. Prior to these appointments, he was an Associate Professor of Systems Biology at the Institute for Advanced Biosciences, Keio University, Japan.
Professor Selvarajoo serves on the editorial boards of BMC Biology (Nature Portfolio), Genomics (Elsevier), Frontiers in Immunology, and Biotechnology Notes (KeAi Publishing), and regularly reviews manuscripts for leading journals including Nature Methods, Nature Aging, Nature Catalysis and Nature Communications.
His research spans computational biology, systems biology, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, and statistical genetics. He has pioneered the application of fundamental statistical principles to investigate high-dimensional biological systems and has made significant contributions to deterministic and stochastic modeling of complex signaling, gene regulatory, and metabolic networks. His current research focuses on developing mechanistic artificial intelligence and foundation models for biology by integrating multi-omics, single-cell, spatial, and clinical data to enable predictive, interpretable, and digital twin models of biological systems. His work aims to bridge data-driven machine learning with mechanistic systems biology to advance precision medicine, drug discovery, and biological intelligence.
Professor Selvarajoo has authored over 100 scientific publications, predominantly as corresponding author, including the single-authored book Immuno Systems Biology (Springer). He has secured numerous competitive research grants, serves as an international grant reviewer, and has organised and delivered invited, keynote lectures at major international conferences worldwide.
